ACME Studio Obey Roller Ball Pen by Shepard Fairey
Artist-designed rollerball pen featuring Shepard Fairey's OBEY graphics, engraved signature, and refillable ACME Studio writing mechanism
The ACME Studio Obey Roller Ball Pen brings Shepard Fairey's distinctive graphic language to a functional writing instrument. Introduced in 2009 as part of ACME Studio's designer pen collection, it features bold black-and-white artwork drawn from Fairey's OBEY aesthetic, with the artist's signature engraved on the cap band. Production ended in October 2017, making this a discontinued design with particular appeal to collectors of contemporary art and distinctive writing instruments.

Shepard Fairey's OBEY Artwork in a Writing Instrument
Shepard Fairey began his OBEY campaign in 1989, using street art, graphic design, and imagery inspired by propaganda to explore advertising, authority, and consumer culture. His work became internationally recognized for its bold visual compositions, repeated symbols, and strong graphic contrasts.
Created for ACME Studio in 2009, the Obey Roller Ball translates that visual identity into the proportions of a traditional capped pen. The black-and-white artwork creates a distinctive appearance, while Fairey's engraved signature on the cap band identifies the artist behind the design. The ACME name appears on the pocket clip.
The Obey rollerball is part of ACME Studio's Standard Roller Ball collection, known for bringing designs by artists, architects, and graphic designers into practical writing instruments. Although the Obey design was discontinued in October 2017, its refillable construction allows the pen to remain useful rather than becoming simply a display piece.

From Our Founder
"ACME Studio has always been interesting because it asks artists and designers to work with an object we use every day. Shepard Fairey's Obey pen is a particularly recognizable example. The graphics are unmistakably his, and the fact that production ended in 2017 makes it appealing to collectors. I also like that it remains a proper refillable pen, so you can enjoy using it rather than simply keeping it in its box."
