Four simple steps
A magnet holds the knife at the correct angle, so all you do is roll the sharpener back and forth along the edge.
Place the blade against the magnetic angle support so it stays stable while you sharpen.
Use the sharpening angle that suits the edge you want. Standard HORL models make the angle repeatable for you.
Roll the sharpening side back and forth along the blade until the edge is shaped consistently.
Move to the finer side or a refinement disc to smooth the bevel and finish the sharpening process.
Build your edge
Every HORL 3 starts with a diamond disc for sharpening and a finer disc for honing. The discs below let you repair a damaged edge, refine it further, or polish it to a mirror finish.
Compatibility: HORL 3 sharpening discs fit HORL 3 and HORL 3 Pro. They do not fit HORL 2 or the HORL 3 Cruise.

The HORL 3 Cruise is the simpler fixed-disc model. It uses 15° and 20° angles with a diamond grinding disc and stainless steel honing disc, and its discs cannot be changed. The standard HORL 3 also uses 15° and 20° angles, but adds a solid wood body, ceramic honing disc and HORL Quick Lock, so compatible HORL 3 discs can be swapped in later.
The HORL 3 Pro is designed for customers who want more speed and more control. Its planetary gearing sharpens up to three times faster than the standard HORL 3, and its angle support gives you six choices: 10°, 13°, 15°, 20°, 22° and 25°. The standard HORL 3 is the simpler choice if 15° and 20° cover the knives you use and maximum sharpening speed is not important.
No. The HORL 3 Cruise uses fixed diamond and stainless steel honing discs. It does not use the Quick Lock interchangeable disc system found on the standard HORL 3 and HORL 3 Pro.
Start with a diamond disc to shape or restore the edge. Use the Standard Diamond for normal sharpening or the Coarse Diamond when more material needs to be removed. Refine the edge with Ceramic Smooth or the Fine and Extra Fine whetstones. Use Kagami Ultra Fine when you want the highest polish, then finish on HORL Leather for the final stropping step.
The standard HORL 3 and HORL 3 Cruise give you 15° and 20° sharpening angles. The 15° side creates a finer edge, while 20° gives a more robust everyday edge. The HORL 3 Pro adds 10°, 13°, 22° and 25° for customers who want more control over edge geometry.
No. HORL 3 grinding and honing discs are made for the HORL 3 and HORL 3 Pro generation. They do not fit HORL 2 sharpeners, and they also do not fit the HORL 3 Cruise.
