WÜSTHOF CLASSIC 5" Hollow Edge Santoku

Forged 5-inch Santoku with a hollow edge and compact black handle, made in Solingen, Germany

The WÜSTHOF CLASSIC 5" Hollow Edge Santoku gives you a shorter, agile blade for chopping herbs, slicing vegetables and fruit, and preparing fish, sausage, and boneless meat. Hollow-ground indentations help sliced ingredients release from the blade, while the 5-inch length provides close control for smaller cutting boards and detailed prep.

Wüsthof CLASSIC 5" Hollow Edge Santoku

Compact Santoku Control

The 5-inch blade is easier to guide than a full-size Santoku while retaining the broad profile needed for efficient chopping and slicing. Its 1.6-inch width provides useful knuckle clearance and enough blade surface to move prepared ingredients from the board.

The hollow edge creates small air pockets between the steel and the ingredient. This reduces sticking when making thin slices of vegetables, fruit, fish, sausage, and meat.

Wüsthof CLASSIC 5" Hollow Edge Santoku

A Smaller Alternative to the 7-Inch Santoku

The 5-inch Santoku suits cooks who prefer less blade length and closer control. It keeps the broad profile, hollow edge, and thin cutting geometry of a Santoku in a size that is easier to manage for smaller ingredients and compact workspaces.

Questions answered

Frequently asked questions

What is the WÜSTHOF CLASSIC 5" Hollow Edge Santoku best used for?

This compact Santoku is especially useful for chopping vegetables, mincing herbs, slicing fruit, and preparing smaller portions of boneless meat or fish. Its broad blade provides useful knuckle clearance, while the short cutting length makes detailed preparation easier to control.

Should I choose the 5-inch or 7-inch CLASSIC Santoku?

The 5-inch Santoku is easier to maneuver on smaller cutting boards and during detailed preparation. The 7-inch version provides more reach for larger vegetables, longer slicing strokes, and substantial quantities of ingredients. Both have a broad hollow-edge blade and favor controlled downward cuts.

What does hollow edge mean on this Santoku?

The oval indentations along the blade create small air pockets as the knife moves through food. These help reduce sticking, particularly when slicing vegetables, fruit, and other ingredients that tend to cling to a smooth blade.

How does this Santoku differ from a traditional paring knife?

A paring knife has a narrow pointed blade for peeling, trimming, and detailed work with small ingredients. The CLASSIC Santoku has a broader blade designed for cutting-board preparation, with more knuckle clearance and a straighter cutting edge for chopping and slicing.
