Questions answered
It is useful for slicing tomatoes, rolls, sandwiches, citrus, firm fruit, cured sausage, and other foods with resistant skins or crusts and softer interiors. Its compact blade offers more control for smaller foods than a full-size bread knife.
The Serrated Utility Knife uses a toothed cutting edge that grips firm skins and crusts, making it useful for tomatoes, bread rolls, and sandwiches. The regular plain-edge Utility Knife is better suited to clean slicing, trimming, and detailed preparation of ingredients that do not need serrations.
It works well for smaller rolls, sandwiches, and compact baked goods. For large artisan loaves, baguettes, and substantial cakes, an 8-inch or 9-inch bread knife provides more cutting length.
Yes, but the serrated edge requires appropriate sharpening equipment and technique. It should not be sharpened in the same way as a conventional plain-edge utility knife. Specialist sharpening is a suitable option when needed.
