How often do you have to change the CLEARYL filter?
On average the machine will tell you to change the filter either after 50 litres (1650 ounces) of water has passed through or after about 2 months. But the hardness setting that you have chosen on setting up the machine will also influence the life of the filter. Be sure to test the water supply with the strip provided. We can supply replacement test strips if you call us on 940-455-2205.
Even if a you have some sort of "whole house" water filtration system fitted, you should still consider using the Jura filter. Why? Because the water hardness may fluctuate a lot even if using a descaling system. and water softeners do not remove substances which smell or taste, such as chlorine or fluoride. The Jura filter optimizes the water for coffee making, leaving just enough calcium for the best tasting coffee. Do not used distilled water or reverse osmosis water. It makes bad coffee since there are no minerals at all.
If your Jura automatic coffee machine has not been programmed to filter mode, it will still ask you to descale. The machine does not know that a filter has been inserted just the same as if you attempt to use a poor quality generic filter. Also, if you fail to change the filter within a certain number of cups made, the machine will require you to descale, since the filter has passed its useful life.
Our experience, and that reported by many of our customers over the years, is that a filter protects your machine and prolongs its life. Think of it like keeping your house clean regularly, rather than living in a mess and eventually having to pay someone for a "deep clean".
