Wüsthof CLASSIC 7" Hollow Edge Nakiri

Direct Board Contact for Vegetable Prep

The 7-inch blade uses a long, straight cutting edge for controlled downward cuts. Its 1.9-inch width gives you useful clearance beneath the handle and a broad surface for transferring chopped ingredients from the board.

The hollow-ground indentations create small air pockets between the blade and the food, helping thin slices of vegetables and fruit release during repetitive prep.

Wüsthof CLASSIC 7" Hollow Edge Nakiri

A Dedicated Vegetable Knife

The Nakiri suits cooks who prefer a straight downward cutting motion instead of rocking a curved chef's knife. Its wide blade provides useful board clearance and ingredient transfer, while the hollow edge keeps repetitive slicing moving with less food buildup.

The blade resembles a cleaver, but its finely ground edge is intended for produce rather than bones, frozen food, or other rough cutting tasks.

From Our Founder

"A Nakiri feels direct on the cutting board. The straight edge completes each cut cleanly, and the broad blade makes it easy to move a full batch of vegetables into the pan."

Questions answered

Frequently asked questions

What is the WÜSTHOF CLASSIC Nakiri best used for?

The Nakiri is designed primarily for preparing vegetables, fruit, and herbs. Its broad, relatively straight cutting edge supports controlled downward cuts for chopping, dicing, and making thin slices of onions, cucumbers, carrots, cabbage, and other produce.

How does a Nakiri differ from a Santoku?

A Nakiri has a rectangular blade and a straighter cutting edge designed primarily for vegetable preparation. A Santoku has a more pointed profile and is suited to a broader range of work, including vegetables, fish, and boneless meat. Both support controlled downward cutting motions.

Can I use the CLASSIC Nakiri as a meat cleaver?

No. Despite its cleaver-like appearance, the Nakiri is a finely sharpened vegetable knife. It should not be used to chop through bones, frozen foods, or other hard materials that can damage the blade.

What is the benefit of the hollow edge on this Nakiri?

The hollow-edge indentations help reduce food sticking by creating small air pockets as the knife cuts. This is particularly useful during repetitive vegetable preparation, when thin slices of cucumber, potato, or other ingredients can cling to a smooth blade.
