Alessi Salt, Pepper & Spice Grinder
Italian-made beechwood grinder by Ettore Sottsass
The Alessi Salt, Pepper & Spice Grinder turns a familiar table tool into one of Ettore Sottsass's unmistakable stacked forms. Made from turned beechwood, it brings fresh-ground seasoning to the table while working equally well as a small piece of functional sculpture.
Why Order from Design & Grace

A design worth leaving out: It combines a practical grinder with the color, geometry, and turned-wood construction that define Sottsass's Twergi work.
From Twergi to the Alessi 100 Values Collection
Ettore Sottsass designed MP0210 in 1989 as part of Twergi, Alessi's exploration of the woodturning tradition surrounding its home region in northern Italy. The grinder stacks simple turned volumes into a composition that feels more like a small architectural object than a conventional mill.
Alessi brought the design back into production in 2021 as part of the 100 Values Collection, created to mark the company's centenary and revisit important ideas from its design archive.
Signature Features
Salt, pepper, and spice grinder: Designed for freshly grinding suitable dry seasonings directly at the table or while cooking.
Turned beechwood construction: Gives the grinder a warm tactile quality and connects it directly to the woodworking tradition behind the Twergi collection.
Sottsass color blocking: Red, yellow, and black sections create the bold stacked composition associated with the designer's work.
9.06-inch height: Provides a comfortable two-handed grip while giving the grinder enough presence to stand visibly on the table.
1989 design: MP0210 comes from Sottsass's original Twergi work for Alessi.
Reintroduced in 2021: Returned to production through the Alessi 100 Values Collection.
Made in Italy: MP0210 is produced in Italy.
From Our Founder
"It is pure Sottsass in the way it stacks color and shape into something much more expressive than it needs to be. It still does the simple job of grinding seasoning, but it is the kind of tool you leave on the table because the object itself is worth looking at."
Tony Boulton, Founder, Design & Grace
