Alessi Alessandro M. Corkscrew
Alessandro Mendini's anthropomorphic corkscrew in thermoplastic resin and chrome-plated zamak
The Alessi Alessandro M. Corkscrew turns opening a bottle into a small mechanical performance. Designed as Alessandro Mendini's playful self-portrait, the figure uses its arms as levers while the internal screw and chrome-plated zamak mechanism handle the practical work of extracting the cork.

A Corkscrew with a Character of Its Own
Introduced in 2003, Alessandro M. follows Mendini's idea that a corkscrew can be both a useful mechanism and a recognizable character. The face, hat, and articulated arms give the object its personality, while the familiar winged-corkscrew action keeps bottle opening straightforward.
This version combines a thermoplastic resin figure with chrome-plated zamak working components, giving the corkscrew enough presence to leave out on a bar or bring to the table.
Signature Features
Winged corkscrew mechanism: The figure's arms rise as the screw enters the cork and provide leverage for smooth extraction.
Anthropomorphic design: Mendini shaped Alessandro M. as a character rather than disguising the mechanics inside a conventional bar tool.
Thermoplastic resin body: Forms the colorful head and figure that give Alessandro M. its unmistakable appearance.
Chrome-plated zamak components: Provide the working metal structure and bright contrast against the colored body.
8.27-inch height: Gives the corkscrew a substantial presence while remaining comfortable to handle at the table or bar.
Alessandro Mendini design: Introduced in 2003 and conceived as a playful self-portrait by one of Alessi's defining designers.
From Our Founder
"Alessandro M. works because the character and the mechanism are the same thing. The arms give you the leverage to open the bottle, and that movement is exactly what brings the design to life."
Tony Boulton, Founder, Design & Grace
