WÜSTHOF at Design & Grace
10-inch honing steel with a black handle, protective guard, and hanging loop
The WÜSTHOF 10" Honing Steel helps maintain a knife's cutting edge between sharpenings. A few controlled passes on each side of the blade realign the edge, helping a well-maintained kitchen knife continue cutting cleanly without removing the amount of steel associated with sharpening.

Questions answered
It helps maintain straight-edge kitchen knives between sharpenings. The 10-inch rod accommodates chef's knives, carving knives, and smaller utility knives, while the protective guard and hanging loop provide practical handling and storage features.
No. A traditional honing steel is intended primarily to maintain an existing cutting edge by helping correct minor misalignment. If a knife remains dull after honing, it needs a sharpening tool that removes metal to restore the edge.
The loop allows the honing steel to hang from a suitable kitchen hook or utensil rail. This keeps the rod accessible for regular maintenance without occupying a drawer or countertop storage slot.
It is intended for conventional straight-edge kitchen knives, not serrated blades. Serrated knives require maintenance methods suited to their individual teeth, so a conventional honing steel should not be used across the serrations.
